What is the O-Shot?

A 30-minute office based procedure that involves injecting platelet rich plasma into the vaginal/clitoral area.

What does the O-Shot do?

Growth factors concentrated by a centrifuge in the plasma portion of the blood stimulate stem cells to develop into new tissue in the form of collagen, blood vessels and fat cells.
Patients will possibly benefit as follows: greater arousal from clitoral stimulation, younger, smoother skin of the outer vagina, tighter vaginal opening, stronger, more frequent orgasm, increased libido, increased lubrication, decreased pain for those experiencing pain with intercourse, and decreased urinary incontinence.
The O-Shot is also used to treat a condition called Lichen Sclerosus.

What can I expect during the procedure?

A few tablespoons of blood are drawn from your arm after numbing cream has been applied; the blood is then placed in a centrifuge and processed for twenty minutes under sterile conditions. Following this the blood is drawn into a syringe and injected into the area around the vaginal opening and clitoris that has been pre-prepared with numbing cream.

What can I expect after the procedure?

You may resume normal activity, including sexual activity, following the procedure. Around 10 percent of patients will have excess arousal that will last up to one week. Other side effects include a mild pressure like sensation in the vaginal area. The women most likely to benefit are those taking hormone replacement or are producing hormones on their own. Woman who are post menopausal and not sexually active may not receive as much benefit as women in the two previous categories and may wish to begin hormone therapy prior to receiving their first O-Shot.
It takes three months for the stem cells to divide and become new tissue and experience the full effect of the treatment. Patients may need a repeat procedure 8 – 10 weeks following the first injection. Studies have shown that some patients will receive benefit up to 2 – 3 years from one injection. Overall 90% of the patients respond to their first injection.

Are there serious side effects to the procedure?

There have been no serious side effects reported as you are receiving your own blood. This information is derived from the longstanding practice of injection of platelet rich plasma into the knees of professional athletes to promote healing and recovery from injury, heal diabetic wounds and enhance recovery from dental procedures. Platelet rich plasma is also injected into the face to enhance appearance, also known as the Vampire Facelift.

What is the cost of the O-Shot?

The cost is $1,500. We do not bill the charges to your insurance company. You will be provided a statement upon request.
